Manette Street

Slab Design Union were commissioned by Doodle Architecture to provide technical advisory services and input into the contractor’s deliverables for this refurbishment project in Soho, London.

The project comprised the refurbishment and re-cladding of a 1960’s office building on Manette Street in Soho. The scheme transformed the appearance of the building through the use of high quality materials and drew on the historical context and architecture of the adjacent St. Barnabas Chapel to create a unified urban design strategy.

The ground floor was repurposed as a new cafe and co-working space, with the offices above fully refurbished and a new rooftop garden added, offering views across Soho.

The location of the building required carful consideration with regards to site access and construction techniques that would create minimum disruption to adjacent buildings.

The materials palette was developed from shared project history, having previously collaborated on high-spec office schemes for the same client. This allowed us to quickly develop the project scope and propose robust and effective solutions that exceeded the client’s aspirations for the project. Particular attention was paid to the new facades where a bespoke solution was developed.
